Moon Garden Tagaytay – A Perfect Tagaytay Secret Garden

Appropriately enough, in these frenetic times, the place is a pocket of absolute tranquility. It’s filled to bursting with brilliant foliage that seems to tuck themselves into every nook and cranny.

Secret corners are hidden about where old wooden benches share the space with wild flowers and creeping vines. Kick-knacks like ceramic moons and elephants pop up in unexpected place, peeking out in between the plants. Huts with big comfy sofas lie as if floating in the middle of ponds lined with lily pads.

This is exactly the place to be if you need some time to exhale and listen to the crickets – which I think we all do once in a while, even the most boisterous and crowd-loving of us!

Our casita seemed almost overgrown with vigorous vines with big shiny green leaves and unidentified fruit. A wrought iron table and chair sat beside it, right next to a small field of pineapple. I had no troubles settling in immediately for a deep, worry-free nap, lulled by the comforting swish of the ceiling fan.

They grow their own organic vegetables on the grounds (plants thrive here…as they do all over Tagaytay) and, predictably because of this, they serve an awesome house salad. With something like four kinds of lettuce and seven kinds of vegetables, and two kinds of dressing, it was delicious and fresh and a perfect example of how fantastic salads can be when well-cared-for ingredients are used and a little thought is put into it.

Moon Garden Tagaytay is a nice bed and breakfast situated in a relatively secluded area. They have a spacious graveled parking area. From the parking area, you follow a small path and enter a small gate into a lush garden. The garden has a mixed Asian and European feel.

The highlight of the place is, obviously, the moon theme. Little moons are scattered here and there: hanging from trees, in pots, etc. You can almost play find the moon or something.

In the center of the garden is the restaurant area. There’s a large dining area where you can find a fireplace (no logs nor fire, though) and a small fountain. There’s also a segregated hut or two for dining.

Just below the restaurant area are the casitas where you can spend the night. The casitas are spaced away from each other so that you can get a reasonable level of privacy and your night of serene solitude in the midst of the garden. I can just imagine how nice that would be. Maybe we’ll give the place a try one of these days.

Moon Garden, as it is aptly called, is one of the new garden restaurants in the city that is within a pineapple plantation. The theme of the garden complex is introduced by its quaint welcome entry—a black iron gate accentuated by steel cutouts.

Photo: OAP

Upon entry, a lush landscaped plot welcomed us, with sinuous shaded walkways that branch out to lead to different kinds of experiences. One of the walkways led us to a landscaped enclosure that had a single bench oriented toward colorful paintings sitting on a wooden ledge—a perfect place to contemplate. Another walkway led us to a series of thatched Balinese pavilions with generous seating areas that project a very relaxed atmosphere.

At the end of the walkway sat the main dining pavilion from which other smaller, more intimate pavilions branch out. These private huts seem to float above a series of ponds that are also a visual feast because of the way they are carefully filled with water lilies, vetiver grass and other decorative landscaping elements. It was clear that whoever designed the place wanted the visitors to become as relaxed as possible, because of the wider-than-usual sofa sets and the number of pillows on them.

The venue can easily sit about 200 guests, which makes it perfect for a wedding reception. The well-landscaped backdrop, in combination with the sumptuous and fresh dishes that they source from their own livestock and organic farm, will surely make a memorable themed wedding.

Weddings in Tagaytay is now a hot trend in the Philippine wedding industry. Large percentage of couples (based on our experience) from Manila and other cities wanted their wedding to take place at the beautiful and great view of Tagaytay City.

This is where Splendido Taal Golf and Country Club comes into the picture.

Pioneering Tagaytay as the premiere wedding destination, Splendido Taal boasts of wide undulating greens and luxuriant landscapes of a par 72 championship golf course. But beyond golf, Splendido Taal highlights its charms as an intimate place to get married.

Splendido Tagaytay Wedding

The Spanish-Mediterranean-inspired golf clubhouse can accomodate anywhere from 100 to 300 people and provides a one-of-a-kind venue for weddings.
The hillside lounge has a cozy atmosphere with its high wooden ceilings and wrought-iron chandeliers. Its patio doors open wide to let the cool Tagaytay breeze into the dining area. A corner fireplace offers warmth during chilly nights.

The La Esquina Spanish Restaurant is located in a scenic corner of the clubhouse that can accommodate up to 60 guests – Perfect for small, private wedding receptions. Its breathtaking floor-to-ceiling glass panels provides diners with a front and center view of the majestic greens and fairways of the golf course as it stretches into the distance.

Nevertheless, Splendido Tagaytay is one of the best Tagaytay wedding destinations that a couple can dream of.

Claudine Wedding March At Tagaytay Highlands

Weddings never fail to enchant women and even men (whether they admit it or not!). While we all look forward to meeting the perfect man (or woman), the dream of having the most perfect wedding almost
always overshadows anything else.

Such are weddings at the Highlands. Many happy couples can attest
to this. While some of the best hotels in Manila boast of fancy linen;
crystal chandeliers or tiffany chairs, Highlands offers the serenity and
sheer magnificence of nature as the perfect backdrop for the wedding
– an “amenity” that cannot be duplicated nor bought.

Such was the wedding of the young celebrity couple Raymart Santiago and Claudine Barretto just recently. They have all the means to have THE perfect wedding – in any place they fancy. Hence, it was a privilege to have been chosen as venue for what the entertainment industry touted as THE wedding of the year. Contrary to what was expected from public personalities, however, the couple insisted on having a very private union – and a private union they got. Privacy and exclusivity, afterall, are Highlands’ basic dictum.

The young and unassuming couple are such joy to work with. They are very hands on – making sure that every minute detail is attended to. The groom actually did a “walk-through” all by his lonesome at least four times (!). Making sure, perhaps, that he is able to lead his bride and guide her every step of the way towards the beautiful gazebo that would stand as silent witness to their exchange of vows. They both sat through lengthy planning sessions – mingling and talking to the Club’s staff, giving their own suggestions when they could have very well left everything to the
master of wedding planning, no less than Ms. Rita Neri herself.

Giving of one’s time to something of great value and importance does
have its rewards. The Santiago-Barretto union proved to be THEIR REAL
DREAM WEDDING. It was private, solemn, fun and enchanting – just
like in the movies. This time, however, it was for real. No cuts, no eyedrops
or mentholated ointments were required – theirs were pure tears of joy and
happiness.

On this note, we have great news to those aspiring to have a grand Highlands
wedding of their own. The Wedding Chapel will soon open its doors to
couples who dream of only the best beginning for their lifelong union. This
will be located just a stone’s throw away from the Midlands Golf Clubhouse,
and commanding a sweeping view of Taal Lake and the Batangas countryside.
Hence, all the future brides out there may now realize their dream of getting
whisked off from the wedding ceremonies to the wedding reception. There
will be no need to have to travel hours to get to the reception venue, and
run the risk of getting trapped in dreadful traffic – leaving your poor guests
waiting, not to mention starving!

Raymart Claudine In Car

The chapel can likewise serve as a venue for ceremonies and commemorations of other milestones in a Catholic’s life.

Who will be the first lucky bride to march down the Highlands Wedding
Chapel’s aisle?

Breathing Space

With the throngs of people making short weekend trips out of the city to dine on the fresh salad greens, freshly baked bread and homemade pasta sauce, Sonya’s Garden has become a Tagaytay prime tourist attraction.

Garden Salad Sonyas Secret Garden

But what others have yet to discover is the secret of Sonya’s Garden. Along a sloping pebble path at the far end of the restaurant is a wooden gate that opens to an English style garden with flowers in different hues, wildly growing. The gardens are not manicured and landscaped, but are lovingly cared for by hand.

This is Sonya’s Bed and Breakfast. A nature haven that welcomes you with serenity, rather than opulence and luxury; where you are greeted by wind chimes daintily rustling in the breeze and birds chirping in the background.

Twelve different cottages are nestled in this garden. Some are hidden within the landscape while some are nestled in various corners of the greenery. All named after herbs and built to have the same relaxing effect, none of the 12 cottages have a TV, an aircon or radio. Frivolities of the modern world such as these would only disrupt the balance of nature so carefully maintained here.

While no two rooms are alike, the mostly white interiors set against the colorful Murano chandeliers hang from the high ceilings and provide a contrast of hues and light. Everything comes together fluidly and languidly into huge bay windows with cheesecloth curtains that let in air and sunlight. Well-worn books which have been obviously enjoyed by many, personal mementos and family antique pieces serve more as mere accent pieces; they exude a nostalgic feeling of home.
These surroundings make Sonya’s Bed and Breakfast the perfect place to do absolutely, deliciously nothing. And that doing nothing can actually be an art form.

Sonya Garcia, founder and owner of Sonya’s says, “Our guests come here for a multitude of reasons. Some come to bond and rebuild relationships with those close to them. Some come for the solitude of the peace and quiet. I would like to think that the atmosphere offers a sense of tranquil solitude rather than lonely isolation.”

And in throngs they come

Sonya’s Bed and Breakfast has drawn many writers and artists who need solitude. They come here to let their creativity run free and without interruption. The garden has secret little sitting nooks where one and think and simply enjoy being with their own thoughts.

Mothers come with their daughters to treat themselves to a “girlfriend” bonding weekend, doing the things that girls like to indulge themselves in like feasting on the scrumptious food, lounging around and perhaps getting a massage. Sonya’s signature massage—a combination of Shiatsu and Swedish massage done with lightly scented virgin olive oil—unwinds tired knotted muscles. Kicking back and loosening up always gets women to talking, and this allows mothers and daughters to really know each other outside of their biological relationships, as individuals, as friends.

Friends come in groups to celebrate. One guest at Sonya’s Bed and Breakfast celebrated her 18th birthday by bringing in her closest friends and renting a cottage for a slumber party weekend.
And of course, there will always be the couples who are drawn by the enchantment of Sonya’s. The garden’s main walkway is lit with lanterns, bathing the garden in a warm glow at night. The atmosphere unmistakably is simple, classic, old-fashioned romance. This walkway leads to the main dining room where you can enjoy a candlelight dinner while being serenaded in kundiman songs. On your walk back to your cottage, you can stop and watch the fireflies dancing in the moonlight, casting a magical twinkle in the trees. Sonya herself can tell you that many marriage proposals have resulted from watching this dance of the fireflies.

Indeed, there are many discoveries to make about oneself and others at Sonya’s Bed and Breakfast, where you can allow yourself to lay back and enjoy the art of doing nothing.
